First day of kindergarten at Aquarian Charter School... up by 7am, big breakfast, lunch packed. Maren tossed her grapes, pretzels, chips, sandwich and carrot into her lunchbox loose- no baggies. We repacked.
Walking into school...she wanted a picture of her family to carry with her ( she kept it in her pocket all day and said, "It REALLLLLY helped!" and she wrapped her bunny Hooray in two blankets and a rope ( afraid he might escape?) and stuffed him into the bottom of her backpack.
Walking in with confidence...
...the confidence soon faded with the crowded classroom, 23 other parents trying to send their kids off too, and the unfamiliar surroundings. Initially, most comfortable holding onto my leg, Maren moved in closer to the group as Miss Debbie started to read.
I couldn't wait to pick her up. I felt slightly sad and lonely all day, although it was a joy to be with Sadie. At the end of the day, I peeked into her room and she smiled and waved and I knew the day went well. On the way home Maren asked me, "what are we doing tomorrow?"
"Oh it's kindergarten again honey," I replied.
"I know Mom. I mean is it art again or gym or music or computers or Spanish?"
