Goodbye Marker Barker

Marker went to dog heaven today. I knew him for almost twelve years. He had a thing for porcupines and little female dalmations. He was a one man dog who could care less about dog cookies, but he grew into a loyal family boy who loved a juicy t-bone from the table. He was with me when I ran into a mountain lion and he accompanied David and I on one of the best runs of my life-from La Cueva to Canyon. When I first met him, his paws were stained red from the dirt at Jemez. He lived to ride in the little Ford Ranger and the Chevy and knew the sound of David's truck. He was an amazing escape artist in his youth. He crawled under the house and ate all the insulation in a thunderstorm, he peed all over our clothes in our closet while being cared for by the dogsitter and chased an elderly woman while she carried two cups of coffee in a motel parking lot. He made us really mad. But, he was our boy, our Mr. Buddy, Marker Barker. Maren said it best in the poster she made for him that hangs on our window- " I love you Marker. You are the good dog I ever had."

First met Marker as a very young dog in Santa Fe, NM, and heard from Sarah how David rescued him from terrible living conditions as a puppy. What a wonderful lifelong adventure the Duffy family created for Market whose life was blessed by growing up with David and Sarah and their two girls. Rest in peace Marker Barker. We will remember you.

Dave and Sarah,
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Marker. He was a unique dog that shared a lot of life and memories with Dave, then Sarah and Dave, then he became buddies with Maren. The pictures show a fine and patient playmate. Protector and companion, he will always be loved. All dogs go to Heaven. You showed your love and unselfish devotion to help him when it was his time--never an easy decision. Our hearts go out to you. Beth and Don

Sarah- Marker was one beautiful dog... And what an amazing life you and David gave him. Although I wasn't lucky enough to have met him- I will miss him all the same. He looks so, so happy in his wonderful photo's. He will be greeted by many excited dog friends in heaven...I know Jacy will find him for sure and show him the ropes. I know you, David and the kids will miss him dearly- but he will always be around you.
Love, cousin Di

Sarah and Dave - so very sorry to hear about Marker. That is the only downside to dogs - that they don't live forever. But they sure teach us a lot about unconditional love and companionship. Our thoughts are with you. Barbara and Don
