Wind & Alder-bashing

The mountain run this week was met with 40 mph winds and pelting rain. An attempt up the backside of Flattop began (I was nearly blown over on the steep climb-no exaggeration here), but we bailed in favor of a run lower through the valley out of the wind. Anything sounded better than the gusty wind and the painful rain drops in the face except...

the alder-bashing, devil's club-avoiding route we found. (Can you see Elisio?) We followed the griz tracks and moose poop along the creek up towards Rabbit Lake through the ankle deep mud, mushy snow and mini-streams until we found more stable footing.

The reward was a good one. Playing in the mountains with the views, the brilliant green, the wildflowers and the friends who enjoyed it just as much as I did.
