Extremes

Quiet and peaceful

Wet and Wild

Growing a Garden

First Maren & Noel selected the types of seeds to plant. Maren decided on zucchini, nigella, cosmos, petunias and a few others.

She filled all the containers in the flat with soil. As she filled the containers she told me about how all the best cowgirls have gardens on their ranches.

Noel handed her the seeds and showed her how to plant them.

She covered all the seeds with more soil.

Noel explained that the types of seeds she planted grew quickly; that she may be able to see some growth in about a week. Maren asked me about 8 times today if the plants were growing yet. Maren also asked me three different times if we could buy something for Noel- first a planter at the zoo, then some flowers from the grocery and then the doozy- a "jewel" from the jewelry store. She is quite grateful for her garden. We redirected that excitement into thank you cards. Maren made a lovely card for Noel standing in her garden "because Noel loves flowers." "It's not kind to make one person a card and not another. Steve (Noel's husband) will feel left out." Since she drew Noel in her garden and Noel loves flowers she drew Steve with a gun, hunting (and shooting at) a rabbit "because Steve loves hunting." "But," Maren added, " the rabbit is hiding in its chocolate chip cookie hideout because Steve loves cookies!" Four year old logic for you.

Hungry, Happy Baby

This baby KNOWS the high chair means food and boy does she perk up when she is placed in the chair. She is eating rice cereal and carrots so far!
