Family Camping

Late Friday night we bee-lined it for the Kenai for weekend #1 of salmon frenzy- family style. We loaded up the truck with gear like you wouldn't believe for fishing, dipnetting, pontooning, camping, cooking, hiking, playing and general baby care. It was Sadie's first tent camping experience. She did some sleeping, lots of dirt and rock eating and tons of hysterical laughing at her big sister. We dipnetted on the Kasilof and I caught ( only) THREE red salmon. The Russian was slow and in between runs. We had an awesome Alaskan sunny day and spent the next day in the drizzle. Maren rode a horse and played for hours in the sand. (When I apologized for forgetting her sand toys she held up her hands and said, "That's ok Mom, I have two sand toys right here- my hands!") David and I looked at the RVs and motorhomes around us and tried to figure out how the hell we could continue our camping lifestyle in weather-challenged Alaska with two young kids and an old truck. It was good fun (now that it is over?) and heck, in just a few days we get to get ready to do it all over again!
