Lick the Bowl Clean

Sunday Morning in the Mountains

We spent Sunday morning picking blueberries and low bush crans. David hiked with Sadie up to the saddle. We all enjoyed the bright sun, after many days of rain, in our faces.

Wild Yellow Mountain Horse Sighting

"The Wild Yellow Mountain Horse always runs up. This horse eats berries, deer and other horses. The baby only calls its father, the stallion." We rarely see them in Alaska. (and that's straight from the horse's mouth!)

Buddies in the Mountains

We randomly ran into three of Maren's buddies, Shannon, Erin and Jonah, as we hiked out. Upon seeing each other they swarmed and didn't stop buzzing.

Building Narnia

Maren and Amei built Narnia most of the day on Saturday.
No boys allowed!!!
They moved logs and branches from a recently felled tree and meticulously removed all the leaves from these rather large branches. The bare branches were used as towers and the leaves adorned the palace floor.

They also made soup for their five-headed bird, Bozo, whom lives in Narnia.

Waterpark Fun

On Friday, Maren partied at H2Oasis.

Happy Birthday Amei!

Wake Up Sis!

Maren fell asleep after school, but Sadie had been waiting all day for her to come home. Sadie tried, but Maren slept right through the shrieks and the whacking on the arm.

Powerline Pass Trail Run

I ran the 2008 Powerline Pass Trail Run today. 13 miles, 3500 ft. elevation gain. Part-march, part-run-it's up, up, up s-l-o-w-l-y and down, down, down FAST!!! It was chilly at the start, but I warmed up quickly as it was straight up right from the start.

The run follows the powerline, so you can always look ahead to see where you are going.

I was trying to smile- I was having fun- but I just couldn't breathe very well.

Finally above tree line, it got petty fogged in.

Looking up towards the pass.

Fresh snow!

Five miles up to the pass- 8 miles more down to the finish.

Looking out the valley- the second half of the run.

Thank you feet for taking me!
