Horse Test Ride

Today was the American Quarter Horse Association of Alaska Horse Test Ride at the equestrian center. I signed Maren up for a 1:00 ride. What an experience! Maren walked right into the ring, put a helmet on and hopped right on Herk, her personal quarter horse for the ride. She was led around the ring for about 25 minutes. She trotted, learned how to turn the horse and get the horse to go backwards. She even held the reins. Maren smiled the whole time and at the end of the ride she was presented with a goodie bag full of stickers, horse pencils, horse magazines and a "I love quarter horses " button, which she is proudly wearing. They even gave her a photo of her and Herk riding the range. I stood outside the ring and giggled with pride the whole time.
Her first trotting experience! She loved it! No fear!
She is pretty comfortable up there. She asked the woman if they were going to jump.

Maren learned to back Herk up.
Maren & Herk

Turns out Herk is one of the fastest barrel racers in the state. We were told at twenty years old, he does more work with the grandkids than with the barrels, but he still loves a speedy barrel workout when he can get one.
